I’m Omer — a gamer since forever, and a happy gaymer since a little later.
I spent most of my childhood staring at flickering CRT screens. I pounded away on heavy keyboards and loaded floppy disks that claimed to contain “amazing graphics.”
I instantly fell in love.
This blog was born out of nostalgia. But not only that. It’s also an effort to look back at a time when games were less flashy, but smarter. Less polished, but full of soul.
Here, I write about PC games from the 1980s and 1990s. These were the games that defined an entire generation — and in many ways, defined me too.
But this is more than just nostalgia. It’s also a personal lens on that era. It is a view from the perspective of a young gay kid. He didn’t really see himself represented in games. Still, he knew how to find worlds to escape into.
When I was afraid of being bullied, Police Quest came to my rescue. And when I felt ugly and undesirable, I’d pretend to be the beautiful Prince Graham of Daventry. On some occasions, I even imagined myself as Rosella too. 😊
Hearing the magical tunes of my childhood lets me travel through the fourth dimension — time. They take me back to an era when I was still innocent, naive, and deeply curious about the world.
In many ways, I still am.
The posts here will cover deep dives into iconic games. They will also include behind-the-scenes stories and reflections. These reflections focus on how sexual and cultural identity shapes the world of classic gaming. I don’t aim to be unbiased or comprehensive. Instead, I write with real love, a sharp eye for detail, and a serious affection for pixels.
